I just purchased a cast iron cooking grate for a medium egg @ $37.45 including tax. I was wondering if this was a good deal?
Also, should it be seasoned?

I can't attest to the price as I bought mine from another egghead but I did finally use it last night. After my fire was going I put it on and brushed it with some bacon grease I keep in the 'fridge. Once that all burned off the steaks went on and everything went perfectly. Yummy strips!!

Smokin' T,
Having a cast iron grid is a good deal. I picked one up for a hundred bucks.

no need to season it like a CI Dutch oven since all that seasoning burns off when it gets hot - and that's why you want the CI to get hot and sear. Now practice the cross hatch movement so you can wow your guests and make gasser people envious!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Don't poop your pants when you get the temp up and it snaps at some point around the edge. Has happened with both of mine. The second time I wasn't so surprised!

We have the XL which uses 2 half-moon CI grates. Bought them from the dealer for $42 each. Don't know if that was a good deal or not.

Hey Tom,
I think you did well for that price. I have seen them for at least $40.
Like others have said, no seasoning required. It will just get burned off.
I purchased one for my medium egg last summer and love it for steaks. I have been under the impression that because of the greater mass of the cast iron grid foods tend to cook quicker, sometimes as much as 20% faster. My steaks were coming out over cooked. You may want to check internal temperatures sooner then you are used to.

someone posted about this company recently, very tempting but shipping to GWN is a killer ...

Also, can these be used as cooking grid on large and small egg respectively?
