I finished the cypress table! Pic Heavy

I ordered the BGE extra long cypress table for my large egg. Thanks for those that gave me advice on staining and finishing.
I stained it with a MinWax stain called "special walnut". I then coated with MinWax Spar Urethane semi gloss...sanded with 200 grit...and repeated. I applied a total of 4 coats of the spar urethane...and the cypress grain looks far better than I had expected.
I put the table together this morning and put the egg in. I had a couple of really nice pieces of granite that I had previously used for a different purpose...they look great under the egg.
I have a one month old large nest and wood eggmates for sale. I also have a 3 week old large vinyl cover. I plan to sell all on Ebay unless someone here decides that they would like to purchase them. I'd like to get 50-60% of retail plus shipping.

The finish is gorgeous. Nice work.

Looks good.
I suggest you put the feet between the egg and your stone. There is a lot of heat transferred through the stone without them, and more than a few tables have been burned. Better safe than sorry... -
Nice job Jason

Nice stain job, Jason, and I especially like the stones under the Egg.
-
Ditto on the feet, you'll be glad you did!

Wow....I can't imagine that it would be necessary to put something additionally under the egg. The manufacturer suggested a stone under the egg but said it was not necessary. Those slabs of granite are seriously heavy...I'd bet they way 50lbs. each. It never seems that the bottom of the egg gets terribly hot...just the dome when doing a super hot pizza cook or some such. Can anyone else chime in here? I surely don't wish to burn down my house! Jason

Kitarkus,
Nice finish on your table. I did something very similar to my table and four coats of spar urethane as well. Tim
I have two layers of thin firebrick and an air space with the feet.

i will chime in ,, use the feet ,, in the last 4-5 years there have been numerous pics of charred tables under rock, concrete paver etc and someone measured the temps.. use the feet.
probably won't set the table on fire but over time it will scorch and ruin the bottom shelf.
i suspect it is also good for the egg to have a bit of circulation under it as well ..
did i say use the feet??
nice table!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a look at this thread. Just one example.
Like I said, better safe than sorry !!

Like Bill and Woody have said,,, use the feet. I never saw the damage until I removed the egg.
