I am new to the egg and love it, but I am having trouble keeping the fire going while smoking a butt. It goes out about every 4 hours. Any suggestions would be helpful. TIA

first thing is to make sure the holes in the ceramic ring are clear. not sure what size you have but I know in the XL I think there are 6.-Eddie

What temp are you trying to maintain?
-
Temps lower than 250 are a little tricky to maintain. The temp at the food grid is lower than at the dome thermometer, so 250 dome is as low as you really want to go anyway.

In addition to the advice you have received, make sure the fire ring? (the piece that is in the bottom of the Egg) is lined up with the bottom vent. It should have an opening and it has to be aligned with the bottom vent.
