Butt question

Pickle

I bought a couple of butts from Costco a few weeks back, and I froze them on the night of the sell by date. What I didn't think about was that these would take a couple of days to thaw in the fridge. Think these are still good? Noticed a minor funky smell when I opened the package, but then again, they always smell a little funky. Please let me know your thoughts. I am cooking for a large party this weekend, and don't want to chance anyone getting sick.

You meat should be fine. If the butts were in cryovac, you'll often get an off-putting smell right when you open the bag. It's normal. Mark

rinse them off, leave the house for a few minutes, then come back and smell them, cryovac sometimes smells off, but once you wash them that smell disapears.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Never knew that, thanks for the tip.

Thanks. Did that, and a most of the smell disappeared. Still smells a bit rank, but could only detect by putting nose close to meat. I think its still okay.
