analyzed? Is there a lab and is it reasonable priced?

Hi HungryMan,
What type of analysis are you looking for? I doubt I have the answer but am curious. Thanks.

Analyzed for what? Content? Impurities?
-
Someone gave me a good tasting seasoning and would like to make something like it. He didn't know if it was a home brew or what the deal was.
-
content or close to it.
-
betcha it would cost plenty.
On a lighter side is it because like me you have umpteen partial bottles of unmarked rubs that you've made and don't have a clue what they are! Sometimes I mix some of the mystery batches together and get some interesting tastes - which of course I could never do again! -
This time I will make up a batch and write down what is in it and the amounts.
-
First, you could just ask! They may divulge the most of it and you can trail and error the rest. They may also have proprietary rights, trade secrets, and patients. The simple answer is to find a laboratory that does contract analysis by mass spectrometer. It will probably be cost prohibitive as you could buy a whole pantry full for the price of the test results. JMHO. While you're at it, I'd like to have the assey of CharCrust!!!!!!!

I don't know where this came from, but I was given some a while back in a plastic container. Might be home made for all I know.
-
Must be some mighty good stuff! When you find out, please share!!

Got to do some more tasting. I gave Richard some fresh kona coffee bean and Hawaiian salt. He mixed up some really good rub.
-
Richard sent us some of that! Tasty

You can try calling Savory Spice Shop in Denver. I asked them the same thing in January and they told me to send them a sample and they'd see if they could duplicate it. They didn't say they'd tell me what was in it but that they'd try to make it for me.

Can you tell us if it may have come from Richard? - I sent him some Witchy Red that Ken Stone formulated and I think he has shared some with people. Any unusual characteristics you can mention?
-
I am guessing that a professional analysis would be very expensive. If you have any friends that are outstanding professional chefs like Little Chef I would think they could give you a good idea on how to recreate it once they tasted/smelled it.
Good luck,

That is a fine idea. I'm just looking for close.

if it is, its a good one, pricey to make in small batches though worth it imho. check out my rib post, still have the old shakers

How about taking a pic of it and if one of us gave it to you, then we could help you with it.
-
I know who gave it to me, but we don't know where it came from in the beginning. it was passed down.
