A message to newbies, never panic. A year ago I might have, but you learn there's usually a solution. I hope this is helpful.
My trusty platesetter finally cracked just before placing my wood chunks and Boston Butt on. Yes, I have a low tolerance to pain (heat)
I dropped the poor baby, but quickly came up with a solution so my guests would not be disappointed.
Threw the Hickory on and then the grid.
Next my broken friend....
Pushed the pieces together, and set the feet in...
Then the foil tray, apple juice, rib rack and Butt..
Lastly, business as usual...set it and forget it...another beatiful Butt...no pictures but the typical result (see any other finished Butt pic on the Forum).

Very ingenious idea with the platesetter. I really like your setup. Nothing like making the best of a bad situation.

OUCH! I just lost a leg once. Not fun when you hear the pizza stone crack. :P

Thanks. Now I have a new setter, and 2 old halves that will somehow come in handy.

The only thing that I did not like was a bit of bark sticking to the rib rack as I had to pry the butt off of it. At least I had more snacks while foiling

If I lost the pizza stone pre, or mid cook, that might be a bit of a heartbreaker. However, I'm sure someone has a solution to that on here.
