So...
I'm cooking my first butt today too, a 7#'er. I've been searching the forums and keep reading to "fill the fire box all the way up."
My question is does tha mean all the way to the top of the fire ring to where the plate setter is practically on top of the coals?
And, can I use wet apple wood chips or should I throw those in the trash?

All the way to the top of the firebox is just at the line of the fire ring.
No need to throw them away they'll dry out fast; however you should use wood chunks...
