Brown Sugar Saver

AZRP's question about flour storage made me think about the brown sugar saver. It is a little ceramic disk that you place in brown sugar, and it keeps it from clumping up. It works great. It supposedly loosens up brown sugar that is already clumped up. It only costs 2 or 3 dollars. Bed Bath and Beyond has them.

Thanks for the tip Semolina. If brown sugar hasn't turned to a brick yet a few seconds in the microwave can do wonders also.

A piece of bread works wonders as well, pretty quick too.

Interesting! I have used the bread slice trick for years to keep a favorite recipe of Christmas cookies fresh for weeks - and I do mean weeks! I'd never thought about it for brown sugar...do you separate it from the sugar in some fashion? I just lay the bread on the cookies so that's the reason I ask.

Just put it in the bag. The bread eventually will harden. Just take out and replace.

Thanks! - while this may sound unbelievable you can't believe how many packages of ROCK HARD brown sugar I've thrown out for years!
