Am I wise to purchase a used egg or is it always better to buy new?

If you can buy used from an authorized dealer or at an eggfest you are fine. You want the lifetime warranty to be in effect for any BGE you buy...

new,,,,due to the warranty

New or a Eggfest purchase is the first choice. If you can steal it at a yard sale at 60to70% off and is in top notch shape go for it.

fire boxes are expensive to replace if you have no warrantee. if you were to just do low and slows and maybe roast an occassional turkey the fire box will last a long time, but hot cooking will break it in no time. i wouldnt pay more than half price and you need to turn the egg upsidedown and inspect for cracks before purchasing it.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

i bought a used one from our local dealer. they preferred to call is seasoned as opposed to used though. but not ever having a new one to compare it too i cant tell you whats better. mine works great.

Daisy,
Where do you live? There is bound to be a local Eggfest near you. and yes seasoned is the correct term...not used.. -
I'm in Kansas. I found a used one on craigslist, that I wondered about. We have an XL and would like a smaller one to go along with it. (It's a Meduim) Unless everyone out there thinks it's better to go size "small". But with the warranty, sounds like I'd be better off with new.

Hell, I'm not only seasoned but used also. :silly: :woohoo:

$400.00 includes nest, plate setter, wings and other accessories (not listed)

I got a used large with nest and cast iron vent off craig's for $300. It was used exactly twice. I could really care less about the warranty. The only real thing I can imagine happening to it is if it falls and breaks and I doubt that is covered. Sure the fire ring will eventually crack but the money I saved can buy me a few of those. My temps never go past 350 and rarely over 225. I've got a Weber for grilling.
Bottom line is if you don't want it someone else will.
