Burnt gaskets

if they burn you can get nomex gaskets from the main store in atlanta, some of us use rutland gaskets that will take even more heat. i dont use gaskets at all and dont have any real problems with cooking and holding temps. ive cooked pizza up near 1200 degrees (i dont recomend 1200 to anyone new to the egg or without making some needed mods for safety reasons)fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

The only reason it would burn up is due to an incompetent dealer who doesn't know how to assemble an egg correctly. If you have a tight seal all the way around, it will be fine.

Thank you. Apparently the heat leakage is not significant. Got a not so secret rib recipe???

i like cat's rib recipe but i cant seem to find a link for it that worksfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I disagree, the felt gaskets just do not last when doing pizza around 650 and TREX steaks around 750.Bone Daddy's Competition BBQ & Catering

Guess the best thing is Nomex or Rutland gaskets or none at all.
Thanks All -
I disagree. I have done 750 degree cooks and my original 4 year old gasket lives. Old, beaten down, but it's still there.

I've had my large for almost 2 years. Have had it up to 600 -700 many times and the original gaskets are still in good shape. They look a little rough, but the other day I had some good smoke going, so I decided to test the gaskets. I closed down the Daisy Wheel and had no smoke leaking from the DW or anywhere around the rim. Actually the only smoke started coming out of the bottom vent.

you buy the egg and if theres a problem you can fix it, if you dont have problems then your good to go. seems some have a gasket issue and some dont, seems the newer eggs are having more problems with gaskets, but it just could be more folks buying first eggs and finding the forum.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
