Putting on my Nomex gasket (if it comes today) in 17 degree weather?
Comments

Would the cold weather effect the adhesive? I would think so, as it might need to be plyiable, not frozen, to get a good bond.

It was 58 degrees on Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We won't see 40 again until Tuesday. Maybe I'll bring it in the house and enjoy the fumes.

I can't say for sure, but my gut feeling is that there are not many adhesives that work well at 17 degrees. I think you'd do best to wait for the mercury to rise 35 more degrees, or so.
Wind really picked up here. Thinkin' of wimpin out and cooking in the kitchen tonight.
Beers!

My Super 77 can just gives an upper range of 120 degrees. It doesn't give a lower range. Still...that sounds pretty cold if you want a good bond. Can you drag your egg someplace warmer? If not, I would wait for warmer weather. That's just me.

Box it up and bring it with you to Ocala. It is 77 deg today in Miami...SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

Box it up? Hell, I'll just wheel it on the plane as my carry on! :woohoo:

Ok, just found a link to the data sheet. http://www.lacrosselitho.com/library/pdfs/3M Super 77 Adhesive Spray.pdf
It says:
"Working Temperature: The adhesive and surfaces to be bonded should be 65°F (18°C) or above. Warm the container of adhesive by placing in a warm room, not in stove, oven or other possible ignition source. If the room must be warmed, turn off the heater before opening the container. Leave heater off until all vapors are gone."
So that would be the answer. -

I would suggest as did Salguod to roll it inside, I sprayed the Super 77 outside then wheeled it inside to apply new Nomex gasket and let it set overnite. Good Luck

Say it aint so!!..haha..doing the same thing..warming up a pot of Dino BBQ soulful stew I made earlier in the week and stayin in tonight!..btw...placed a new order today and lookin forward to some pineapple head! :woohoo:

Got to agree with the majarity. It would probably work BUT with these temps and all the work scraping give it all the help you can and get'er somewhere warmer.

I installed a Rutland gasket last summer. A portion of it came loose this winter right before a big cook. A sprayed Super 77 on it and re-attached the gasket in below freezing temperatures. Haven't had a problem and its been months since I did it. Ideally, I would say it would be best if temps were above 60 but you and I live in the Midwest.
