My first experience with a frozen egg. We had an ice storm and 1/2 of the 150K homes in our area are without power. But more importantly my egg is encrusted in ice. Or, I should say was. With a few pieces of newspaper in the top to thaw it, along with a gently and judiciously applied rubber mallet, I was able to open it.
Got it cleaned and set up for a midnight cook. I had frozen fingers after I was done and promptly applied hot buttered rum to help the thawing process. I'll light it up (the egg that is)later on tonight.
The plan is to start a brisket with ambient temps in the double digits. Teens, that is. I hope my Maverick remote survives the cold to eliminate some trips to check on things in the wee hours of the morning. If anyone has any advice for this operation, other than the normal load it up and watch the temp process, let me know.
I'll give a progress report as temperatures and conciseness allow.

I'm beginning to think that too much hot buttered rum may affect the cooking process. What do you think?

It only improves it :woohoo: :woohoo:
My wife might argue that point -
Tripmaker,
The cold won't affect the egg. Ya gotta stay awake til you put it on though.

The Egg doesn't care how hot, cold, snowy or frozen the ambient environment is.

Leave in 15 minutes. Our retail end is having a small Christmas party at the bowling alley so I get to break things

I am certain someone has already posted the solution.
I saw it many years ago.
Remove the cap & drop a light bulb on a cord into the oven. -
Well I have to report a failure. Put the brisket on at 11:30 and by midnight the egg was at 210. Went to bed at 1 am with an egg temperature of 247 and meat at 126. I thought the temp had stabilized but my temperature climbed by 3 am to 296 with the brisket at 170, and I was too lazy to go out to the egg in 5 degree weather to dampen it down. I woke again at 5 a.m. to find the egg at 313 and the brisket at 195. Thirty minutes later the power went out as the result of late effects of an ice storm on Friday. All is not lost. Put it in a cooler and held it till almost noon. The brisket was OK but a bit dry and not as tender as I normally get. I guess it just cooked through the pleatau too fast. Running the BGE in single digit temperatures is not fun. I guess I'm a fair weather egger.

What does that do????

Powered up Light Bulbs produce heat. Heat melts ice.
