Turkey/Chicken Vertical Roaster?

I am a newbie to the wonderful world of eggs. I was wondering which is the best option for my large BGE
1. Go with a cheap one on sale at Cabela's ($2)(only gobbles)
2. Go with the metal BGE one (chix and gobbles)
3. Go with the ceramic BGE one (does it do turkeys too?)
I was just wondering with the clearance issues and such which would be the best idea for poultry roasters. Any input much obliged
thanks

Cheap works for me.

doing a turkey vertical is problematic at best. get the cheap chicken one [but buy two] i often do two small birds at the smame time.
-
Personally if I was to do a vertical bird. I'd go real cheap. Stick a beer can up it's up. Just drink the beer first. Never could taste a real difference with out without the beer.
-
Try a spatchcocked chicken if you havent. you probably wont want to do a vertical roast after that. My preference anyway.
-
Just curious why doing a turkey vertical is problematic.

It may or may not fit!!

height issues good sized turkey and plate setter does may not have enough height.. indirect with the woo ring or versa grate will probably leave enough room ... a really big turkey in a roasting rack sometimes hits the dome thermometer,,,
-
Forget the vertical. Very hard to get a bird of any size vertically into a large egg. I have had the best results, with 20lb + birds in a pan and rack with apples, oranges, onions, wine, etc.

im too cheap to even use a cheap beer can, i cook them with a gingerale can.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Now that may add some flavor that would be worth it..

it works well with tsunami spin, add some ginger peels or ginger ends you wouldnt normally use as wellfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

A while back, there was a fairly active debate on Michael Chu's Cooking for Engineers website concerning beer can chicken. Michael suggested, based on his testing of oven-roasted chicken, that the technique had little value, no beer flavor showed up in the chicken, and brining produced a more juicy bird.
I disputed his conclusion based on technical flaws in his test, but the bottom line is that brines, rubs, and smoking woods will contribute lots more flavor to a bird in an Egg than that little bit of boiling lager inside the beer can or ceramic Poultry Pal-style container.
Website article here
My response criticizing Michael's test design is posted downthread on 11/21/2006.
