Does anyone use a Spider for searing steaks on a large BGE. Does anyone know what size grate you must put on the Spider? (e.g. Medium egg std Grate ??)
I've ordered an adjustable rig with a Spider from Eggaccessories.com, and this is something I couldn't figure out.
Here is a pic I got from the Egg Accessories website:

"The Spider holds BGE’s 15 inch medium (egg) cast iron grid. Add the Rig or Woo2 and you have a can’t miss combination for searing and roasting."

I also have a medium CI grate that I use on my spider. It works great for searing!

The spider was modified this year, so new design holds BGE's small cast iron grid only. Medium cast iron grid will not fit the new Spider. We've updated the information on the new website.

Took the quote in my post, regarding the medium, directly off your site... :woohoo: -
I appreciate the help answering the question, sorry for the misinformation on the site. Good news is that site will be history next week. Twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

I use the 13" cast iron grate from my SBGE in the spider:
Hope this helps, -
Kew el Steve/Tony,
Thanks - I will get a small cast iron grid for my spider/Adjustable Rig that I ordered for my LG BGE this week. -
Beanie-Bean,
Thanks. I hope to be doing the exact same thing when my Spider arrives (shortly), I hope.. -
How do I know which spider I have?

Why the redesign? Seems like the larger grate would have been better.TFOUTCH Algood, Tennessee

I emailed this exact question to the folks at Ceramic Grill Store. They responded very quickly. The answer: apparently the BGE folks changed the fire ring a little (made the diameter a little smaller). Also the fire rings are seldom exactly round. The change in the Spider were made to accomodate the BGE change.
The new Spiders do in fact take the SMALL grates as noted above and on their websites, and for that reason.
By the way. My order was made in the morning, and within an hour, I got a notification that my order had shipped. How's that for FAST!
