Can alcohol go bad?

I have a bottle of Maker's mark bourbon that was opened at least 4 years ago. Would it still be good or is it like beer and can get "Skunked"?

How would most of us know, we've never had a bottle open more than a few days. No seriously, It should be ok, as long as the top was tight. The bacteria that lives in wine dies when the alcohol content goes over something like 20%, as do most living things. Just give it a quick taste, nothing it will make you sick.

It will keep almost indefinitely. Once put into a glass bottle there is no real activity to make it go bad.
Bourbon in my house does not tend to last nearly as long -

Your dilemma is one that definitely requires a tasting competition (preferrably blind). Buy a new bottle (lg.), invite your neighbors & friends and see who will win the "age" test. Have an ample supply of ale on hand so the sippers can frequently cleanse their palates. Have a nice day and let us know how it goes! (tomorrow will be OK) 8 - )

Remember too that it is aged for years in a oak barrell before you get it.

ive only seen alcohol go bad once, back when i was in my teens. dads bottle of vodka almost looked like pure water with egg whites dripped into it. not fit for drinking. your good to gofukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I doubt it.One of the best tasting rums that I ever had I found in a kitchen cabinet that was twenty five years old and left from the previous owner.Bourbon should have a shelf life well beyond that.

Beer gets skunky when the hops react to light. Put a bottle of heineken out in the sun and it will be get skunky fast. No hops in the bourbon so your good to go.

Way to go! I once had a taste of rum that dated back to the days of Sam Lord's Castle and it was gooooood!!!! 8 - )

I can remember when I was a kid, we always swiped my dad's peach brandy to make catfish bait. You know he never ever said anything about it. I would probably have a cow, if my kids did that now. :woohoo: -
Angie..didnt read the rest of the posts..but I live in Kentucky..where Maker's is made..in fact.. in my job, they are a customer of mine..trust me...it's still good...drink it! :P :woohoo:

My dad made wine when I was a kid in the 60's. We had a pool then and it was costing a fortune to keep the guests imbibing. It ended up costing him twice as much to serve the homemade. Something he referred to as seepage.

Should be fine as long as top was sealed. I have had liquor with pour spouts on them and found very sleepy fruit flies floating.
