Eggs used in competition?

With all the different BBQ competitions out there, I wondered if the BGE is frequently used in contest. Why or why not? Maybe capacity is an issue? Do the contests regulate the types of cooking devices that can be used?

The BGE is indeed used in competitions. To say 'frequently' might be an overstatement, but it's not a complete rarity either. Obviously, weight, fragility, portability and cooking space are limiting factors; it is not designed for large cooks, but several teams (including the one I am on) do use them. Most contests limit cookers to those that are wood/charcoal fueled, however the new American Barbecue Association has an open fuel policy from what I understand.
The Egg has produced some prize winning results, most notably in the chicken and rib categories.
