Yep -- Do it all the time!

Just came in from getting my Large ready for tomorrow. As in the past I have an old aluminum dishpan that I hand sift the larger chunks of lump into while I vaccume the BGE out. I think it makes it easier to light (with all vent holes clear) and I reuse the lump and add new. Been doing it ever since I started Eggin'

Captain Jack,[p]Your right. I've been doing this for the last coupple of years. I even have a dedicated shop vac for the job! It's the only way I've been able to keep reasonably clean while emptying the ashes...

Be careful, before I learned to shut down the Egg with the ceramic cap instead of the daisy(it leaks), I waited until the next day and vac'd it out. About five minutes after I was done smoke started pouring out of the vac cannister. There was still a small amount of embers that the rushing air of the vac got them going. Luckily it was right next to the garden hose. -RP

my leaf blower works well also. again, as you said, make sure the lump is completely out.

I use this adapted to the shop vac to reach behind the fire box.

Great idea!

If you use a liner inside the shop vac you have no mess at all. The only place you may get dirty at all is removing the old lump from the egg. For that I use a couple of plastic grocery bags turned inside out and reach in and pick up the stuff I want to get rid of (the bigger pieces)
