Temp contol of med egg

edited 3:39AM in EggHead Forum
I'm having a tough time of getting my med egg to come up to temp, and maintaining a temp. I have tried to be conservative with my charcoalas not to fill it too full. I have tired to keep a hole open in the middle of the charcoal so it could breathe. I keep having a tough time getting to stabilize. I have a large egg and I haven't had anywhere the poblems with attaining and maintaining temps like I have with the Medium. Thanks in advance.

JC in GA,[p]I have a lge and med myself. I have noticed the medium is faster to get up to temp.[p]Check the usualy suspects: is the firebox aligned properly with the bottom vent?[p]Make sure to give it plenty of lump. No need for any hole in the center of the lump pile.[p]Light it in 2-3 places, bottom vent wide open, daisy top off.
  • Fidel,
I've checked all the usual suspects. That's why this is so frustrating. I can't find seem to locate the problem, unless it might be the operator?

    JC in GA,
    I have the same problem.

  • JC in GA,
I've noticed lately that the lump wont burn as well to start with, than take off. I suspect that the high humidity here lately has something to do with it as my lump is stored outside but in the garage attic. Brought a few bags down to the cool dry basement to dry out a few days ago.

  • Carbonizer,
After you mentioning that fact I believe that is the roo of my problem.
    Thanks.
