BGE Cyprus Table: Finishing?

Wife gave me the BGE Cyprus table for Father's Day. Any tips on finishing and sealing? I'm concerned about the finishing next to the lava-hot egg.[p]

    I used Pittsburg Paint Ultra Waterproofing Sealer and have had no problems due to heat.
    It is a thin liquid that you apply with a foam brush and it soaks into the wood. I believe there are several colors availble.

    Scott S.,[p]I built my own table from cedar and finished it using a basic waterseal (may have been Thompson's) brushed on. Of course I let it dry thoroughly for a few days before using the egg and have had no problems.[p]

    Scott S., spar varnish-satin finish. Same stuff they use on wooden boats. It will darken the wood a little giving a rich looking finish.[p]aloha,[p]Greg
