Need Help fot 4th Of July Cook

I want to cook both a butt and some spares and was thinking of cooking the butt so it gets done in the morning of the 4th then the ribs....how should i keep the butt for the 6-8 hours before dinner? any tips or suggestions are appreciated[p]have a safe and happy 4th of july
