If you're in a flood zone below the estimated max height of the storm surge, I would get out if you can, otherwise keep an axe in the house so you can chop your way out of your attic.  The other consideration is drinking water.

    Good luck, I mean it.

I hope everyone makes it through this thing, with the exception of the low lives (thinking looters and thieves here) that are currently planning to take advantage of other peoples seemingly unavoidable and imminent misfortune headed their way.

Keep us posted, my family has a house in Cape Canaveral.  I used to be proud it was on the beach, now not so much.  Our plans are to head down as soon as it passes, but go towards Tampa and wait for the all clear to come across and check things out.  Be safe.

Good luck.  I guess it's the risk you take for living in such a beautiful part of the country.

Stay safe guys, I went through a few of them myself when I lived in the Tampa bay area. They are so unpredictable. Godspeed.

That is happening here.  The warn people to make sure they have gas because they don't allow exiting for the wrong way drivers for a long way.

@Doc_Eggerton funny thing, I was  born in Jax and been here all my life except about 4 years that I lived in Titusville as a little kid. Let's just hope it doesn't turn inland.
Jacksonville born and raised also.  Dobie....do you happen to own a auto repair shop?
Nope, not in that biz. My concern is it's been over 50 years since the Jax area took a hit many will not take it seriously and if they do it will be too late. They're just used to riding the storms out. Making final preps today, tomorrows the big show here. Friday night will peak here right off the coast cat 4.

Not sure you have ever seen the destruction of one of these guys.....You are not smart to ride one out when you have opportunities to seek safety. The rest of it is just stuff. You can replace stuff....but not your life.

I rode out Katrina on the 6th floor of Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. We could see roofs torn off and fly through the air, smashing into other buildings.  Windows broke. Water was dripping through the stairwells and throughout the hospital.  Generators started failing in the days after.  Worst part was trying to get news about our homes and family.  As the reports of flooding came in, people realizing their houses were flooded started loosing it.  It was surreal.

Agree 110%, Scottie!  I lost the apartment I lived in during Katrina to a casino barge squishing it.  Lost a good college buddy and her entire family when they decided to ride it out in the house they had previously rode out Camille.  It had completely slipped my mind until I came across the memorial location in Biloxi/Gulfport a few years back; there I was crying at the memorial sitting under that big ole tree.....

Ya'll still have a chance to get out.  Get out NOW!

Doc, I live in Mims and probably only 5-10 miles from you.  We were in NC on Monday in the middle of a 2+ week trip in the mountains.  This farkin storm sure changed those plans.  We left KY Tuesday morning about 9am and made the 830 miles trip home in 13 hours.

So I will be thinking of you and your family as we both weather this thing through the night.  My prayers are with you and your family.

Sure glad I have the BGEs, no problem with the power outage that is sure to start soon.  We will be eating good and probably feeding the neighbors too.
