Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Pork butt is about the best candidate to meet your requirements. And it is a very forgiving cook. Give the search function a look and you will find many techniques, all of which will work. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Pulled pork for sure. You can find a good sized one for 15$ and give you 6 or so meals worth of food

Around here, pork butt is consistently the least costly meat for low & slow cooks. The past couple of weeks, chicken parts have been on sale.Southeast Florida - LBGE

Pork butt is probably the best option for sure but I smoke my butts for about 12-14 hrs. Trying to cook something in the 5-7 hr range. Might go with ribs.

Ribs for me is usually 6 hours, 3+2+1
Three hours 'naked' except for dry rub.
Two hours foiled with apple cider vinegar.
One more hour 'naked' with 15 minute bursts of basting sauce.

BBQ is a celebration of culture in America. It is the closest thing we have to the wines and cheeses of Europe.
Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.

Pork is highly underrated! Pick one and enjoy.

Whole chickens are a good option depending on the area. I go to the meat section every time I'm in the grocery. If I see something I may want later I'll make a mental note of the expiration date and come back the day before to see if it's been reduced.

Ended up making Asian ribs. My gf is Asian and we already had most of the ingredients. The meal cost me under $17. Yum!
