I got a universal rotisserie attachment and want to try it on my egg this weekend. Any recommendations? Chicken? Butt? Leaning towards a butt on this 1.

Spatchcock chicken beats rotisserie chicken in my book and see no benefit in doing a butt on the rotisserie at all.

Gyro meat would be my only suggestion. I don't completely understand the desire to have a rotisserie on the Egg but there are those that have made it look fantastic.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

I found a couple of add on baskets that fit the large.

Im curios how you will set that up without the hardware to fit the egg?Jacksonville FL

I'll be interested to see how you mount that thing on an egg. And how you'll seal it up so you can control the heat. If I could figure out how to hook it up, I'd consider it, but I wouldn't pay $250 for the kamado-specific one folks were talking about the other day.
I have a $50 toaster oven in my kitchen that just happened to come with a rotisserie. Every so often, I'll do a game hen or two, or a small chicken in it. They taste and look every bit as good as an egged bird. I've never tried a beef or pork roast, but I'll bet either would be delicious too.
If my toaster oven can cook a bird that good, I can only imagine what an egg rotisserie could do!!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I plan on grinding the metal where it would be clamped by the dome/base so im able to close the egg. Im debating if i should have a drip pan under or directly over coals insteadAustin, Tx

I removed the rotisserie from my old gasser but haven't found the motivation to fabricate a mount for the Egg yet. Curious to see how you do it.

So you plan to cut grooves in the metal bands and the ceramic egg itself to lay this in?Jacksonville FL

Still not understanding how you plan to install this thing, but I hope it works. And that you post pics of the install!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Ok the rotisserie rod is going to grind through the rim of the egg.Jacksonville FL
-
Spins very very slow and is smooth, doubt it will shave away at the ceramic. I plan on making a sheet of metal to smooth the transition to prevent said above.Austin, Tx

Leaning towards a butt on this 1. Maybe chicken but had too much of it lately. Score the skin and leave it on at about 250°F. Maybe leave a drip pan or skillet under it.Austin, Tx

1 hour or so in...i shaved rod too thin and heat made it bend/break slowly. No time to grind so small gap is fixed with temporary foil Rotisserie is still going. Temps started at 250°F then climbed slowly to 290°F.

Looks pretty good so far, are you mopping it with sauce?Jacksonville FL
-
Mopped with apple cider, ketchup, worcestershire, etc. Wrapped in foil and then tossed back over direct fire to caramelize bbq sauce. Still cooking nowAustin, Tx
-
You could also do lamb for gyros or pork butt for Al Pastor.
-
Pulled at about 195°F and sat for an hour or so.
