Got my BGE.L last month. It took awhile to get post access to here, had view access & the content has been great, friendly & useful.
BGE.L's meals to date:
BGE.L's meals to date:
- Seared Steaks
- Beer can chicken ~ long legacy of cooking these
- Rack of ribs
- Smoked stew beef for chili
For today's AFC Championship, wings three ways - buffalo, teriyaki & Korean BBQ
My only issue to date was the lid freezing shut. Not wanting to destroy the gasket, the Egg was brought into the house to thaw. Now have some wood shims in place. What are some of your best ideas to keep this from happening again.

Welcome!! Tin foil between the gaskets works and you can put it on right after you finish the cook.

Welcome.. Those sound like some great meals.. There are various ways to avoid this, a layer of aluminum foil, parchment paper and then yesterday I saw someone used a couple of golf tees.. Enjoy the football..Greensboro North Carolina

I have had success with the foil but recently that approach failed a forum member. Depending on the adult beverages involved you can immediately go with the foil as mentioned above and then once the fire is out, use a golf tee or other device to get a gap between base and dome. I'm usually well-overserved by the time I would have to remember the golf tee. Whatever works-
Or you can contact @RRP via the forum and go with a Rutland gasket-eliminates the issue.
BTW-welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

Welcome. I use a golf tee. It's coated so it doesn't absorb water and freeze to the gasket like a shim could.

@lousubcap I am still laughing at "I am usually well over served".. I have never heard that term before, but I guess its the same as "3 sheets to the wind" ..Greensboro North Carolina

Welcome to the forum. Went to Maine last summer and enjoyed it. Do not want to be there in Winter.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers. -
If it freezes you can open the ash door and light a very small fire in the bottom. Like a sheet of newspaper. That will thaw it out quickly.XL,L,SWinston-Salem, NC

Great advice & thank you for the welcoming comments & compliments.
We moved back to Maine 17 years ago after a 21 year Air Force career. Winters aren't so bad as long as you balance the snow management time with other outside endeavors. I went snowshoeing this morning, temp in the low 20s and had sweat running down my back.
Looking forward to to many more BGE meals. Pizza or brisket is next.

Welcome in. The cost getting in is nothing compared to the cost to stay in, never stops.
