I have seen so many good posts on here making Paella that I want to tackle it for myself. I've read a few places that there is a specifically purposes pan just for Paella...is that true? If so, any recommendations on brand/size (for a Large BGE)?

I bought this pan http://www.amazon.com/World-Cuisine-Carbon-Steel-Paella/dp/B000ECO866/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1442270518&sr=8-3&keywords=De+buyer+paella
I did not realize until I received it that it was made by de Buyer. It is a quality well made pan and works well on a LBGE.
I use it for other dishes as well. Here's a pic on the egg.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Here's a great primer for paella. Scroll on down to a section devoted to Paella pans. http://www.nakedwhiz.com/paella/paella.htm
BTW check out Typhoon pans for a paella pan with the vertical handles that enables a 15.5" pan on a LBGE. Great cook.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
I have a 15 inch which is great for larger gatherings, 7-8 guests. I just bought this 13 inch which was perfect for a family of 4. The pan is round and thin so that it adjusts quickly to temperature changes.
