Depends on your budget I would say. Most people have the Food Saver home use type or similar. I got mine at Costco and it serves me well - the bags are more costly but the machine is reliable and I have the attachments for mason jars which I really like.
The heavy users or those with lots of money like the VacMaster VP215 chamber sealer. For almost $1000 you have to really know it is going to see heavy use to justify.

I have the FoodSaver V3440, works good for me , (low volume), did'nt break the bank at less than $200. Bags are cheapest by the case. I got mine at Sears.

@jscarfo, I think another big factor is your intended use. My daughter has a Cabela's 15" Commercial grade vacuum sealer and she has to let it cool a few seconds between packaging when she's working it hard processing fish. I did watch her process fish side by side with a lady that had a Non-commercial grade sealer and she could do almost 2:1. They process a lot of fish though.

Mostly good reviews on Amazon. Im sure it's not the greatest but good enough to let you know if you are going to continue to use it or stuff it away in the back of a closet. We use ours all the time. We have a mid price model that is no longer made.YEMTrey said:

I've been wanting to get a vacuum sealer of some sort. Don't usually have much in the way of leftovers unless I'm smoking a pork shoulder. Mainly use it for that and maybe a bit of brisket every now and again.The unit would maybe be used once a month at most.Steve

I've had the FoodSaver 4880 from Costco for almost a year. It is about $129 (on sale now), I wasn't sure how much I would use it. As it turns out, I use it all the time, and have had no issues with it. The rap is that the bagging materials are expensive (those are on sale now too). It doesn't seem that bad to me, but I don't know what the comparison is. The vacuum sealed frozen food is preserved way better than trying to store in a freezer baggy.Santa Paula, CA

I very rarely freeze meat, but a friend of mine sealed some ribeyes for me because it was to long to fit on my large, and when I cooked them I was impressed with the color and flavor and it was still juicy. So I'm thinking I can buy whole ribeye roasts and cut an seal them

I went nuts and got a chamber sealer. With heavy use I'm still hoping to 'break even' in 5-6 years with savings realised through way cheaper bags, not to mention all the other intangible$.IMO IF anyone is spending mid 200's and up for a suction sealer, depending on usage frequency, it may be worth taking a look at the entry level chamber sealer Vacmaster vp112, selling at webstaurant.com for $579, free shipping, no tax.canuckland
