My large egg is 14 years old and I retrofitted it with the stainless door years ago. Then they added the screen so again I retrofitted that to include that screen. That meant I bent the tracks out to accept the slide by of the two pieces. It has always been a tight fit but I made do. Now that I have some arthritis in my hands it has become more difficult to grip and slide meaning I also burn my fingers. Today I solved that problem with this piece of 1" x 1.5" dowel. I contoured the sides for easier grip and then to secure it I drilled a partial hole through and pinned it with a brass nail. Problem solved!

Nice- make sure it doesn't get hot enough to catch fire
Great idea

It shouldn't since it is on the right side away from the vent opening. When I was getting burnt it was from the hot metal so I think this will be fine.

Good thinking. I always thought BGE could improve on grabbing sheet metal. I know they now have little plastic covers now but they could do better.XLBGE, LBGE, MBGE, SMALL, MINI, 2 Kubs, Fire Magic Gasser

just a little hint...if you bend the top and bottom tracks at the right end a little bit then your door will spring enough to clear the two bolt heads and slip right on out. That makes working on the alteration easier since that stainless steel door is pretty strong when you go to drill a hole through that metal tab. You need leverage! -
That's a good idea. Looks like a good execution as well.Henderson TN. 1 large BGE, 1 Webber Gasser (recently seems to have converted into a warming oven)
