I am cooking for a church choir's picnic tomorrow. There should be approx 120 people there. I've got 65+lbs of pork shoulders (8 total) on the Egg.
I have an older XL Egg which means I lack some vertical space due to the dome being flatter than the newer models. I removed my fire ring and positioned the plate setter legs up directly on top of the fire box. Removing the fire ring gives me about 5" of extra vertical space. I have 4 larger butts on the bottom and 4 on the top. I'm using my homemade grate extender (a Weber rack with 6" bolts as legs).
All 65lbs FIT!!!

I think you have room for a couple of slabs of spares on top :P.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

RESULTS: I called an audible at the last minute. I decided to turbo. I cooked at 300F. The 8 butts were done in 8 hours! I got great smoke, juiciness & tenderness. WOW! These were great! I hate that I have to hand them over to others....

I ended up having 1 entire butt left over. I would call that a fairly close estimate! Extra pork is better than not enough. It was a great learning experience and by far the largest single cook that I have ever attempted.

I took all of my leftover pork to the office today. I was forced to use this gasser to heat it up. It makes me appreciate my Eggs...
