Where to cook on the Egg

I have a small patio with a overhang and a very uneven backyard. I would not cook on my old charcoal grill under the patio so I cooked on the driveway. I don't want to keep the Green Egg on the Driveway begging to be stolen or damaged.
My question is, how safe would it be to cook on the Egg under the patio?

I had the same ordeal when starting to cook at the house that my wife and I bought last year because the back deck has no covering on it. However, the front porch is a wrap around and is covered. I've had the egg out there since about November and no issues as of yet. My biggest concern was that the siding would discolor from the smoke and everything, but it appears to be high enough so as not to be affected. I don't see a problem with it... IMO. I've cooked at real high and low temps as well, still no problems.Demorest, Ga. 1MBGE

Shouldn't be a problem because you will be cooking with the dome lid closed. On high heat cooks with the daisy wheel off or wide open, a lot of heat will rise up, so I wouldn't have anything directly above, but that's about it. The only other issue is that the covering may trap some of the smoke and direct it toward the house.Justin in Denton, TX

If your soffit has ventilation holes in it, be mindful of the amount of smoke that you generate under the patio.. See my previous thread on this: http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1154393/smoke-in-the-atticLBGE

I've been cooking on a covered patio for about a year and a half. I moved the egg out from the overhang last week, as I didn't like the discoloration from the smoke. I'm thinking I'm going to move it back under the overhang - like the shade much better, and the smoke cleaned up nicely with some simple green and elbow grease.Santa Paula, CA

I cook on a covered porch. Get a fire mat just in case. It also helps with the occasional spill.
