I left the cover off my egg and the wind took it for a ride that night. Of course, when I woke up it was gone. My local store is ordering me a new one, but it has been a hard rain for the past day. This may be a stupid question, but the seal seems to be getting wet, will this ruin it, or will it be fine after it dries? It's just that I was raised to take care of my stuff, and I get worried when things happen out of the ordinary. I'm new to the Egg for about six months, prior to that I owned a gasser for a year and a half. This Egg is my new pride and joy.

Pressed Meat,
It will be fine. Many don't use a cover at all including me.

Good question. I have heard that the cover is mainly so the wet felt doesn't freeze. I just started using my cover last week because we were getting and will continue to get freezing weather. The ceramic rain cap I guess is just that and all summer I didn't put on the cover, mostly because the egg was still pretty warm when I was ready to go to bed. Now with the colder weather it seems to cool off much quicker.

dhuffjr,
I figured as much, but i love this thing. It doesn't hurt to ask, right?
-
Pressed Meat,
Nahh....like they say the only dumb question is the one not asked.
-
dhuffjr, I guess I better ask more questions! ; )

Pressed Meat,[p]The only time you should be concerned with a wet gasket is when the temp falls below freezing. The lid will freeze shut and you'll have to thaw out the egg before attempting to open the lid. Otherwise, you'll be fine.[p]Welcome to the land of egger enthusiasts![p]John

Pressed Meat,
i don't even HAVE a cover....[p]no worries

WooDoggies,[p]Really? I have enough cookers in my garage as it is... I don't need another one.. Won't be able to have my ping pong table out there anymore... ;-)
-
Scottie,[p]Dude, you have to be the most fickle potential ceramic buyer on the internet..... just get one for cripes sake![p]And I should have stated that the lid will only feeeze shut if the gasket is first saturated with water and then the outside temp falls below freezing .... freezing temps alone will not cause the lid to freeze together.... confused yet? heee?[p]
-
WooDoggies,[p]No kidding. BBQbob will probably get one before Scottie.

drbbq,[p]Damn.... Look at how I get treated... ;-) [p]All this ceramic talk, just gets me so confused... I'll be getting one guys. I have to keep up my reputation as the 'coolest egger'... lol I've got things in motion as we speak... Or type... I just finished ordering my required Dizzy Pig t-shirt, so I will look like an egger now, at least... Although, I meant to ask Chris, I did not see a pocket for my pocket protectors... ;-) I'll be heading out to Benson and see Steve after the new year. I have to finish getting my rv first... That's more important...[p]Speaking of... When are those cooking classes going to be posted? Can you take care of a brotha? ;-) Would it help if I had an egg?
-
WooDoggies,[p]Confused? Yes I am... ;-) Besides, when I do get it, I'm going to change to a new alias, so I can keep harrassing you guys and you guys won't know that I have purchased it... ;-) Now... Do I have you confused...
-
Not yet, Scottie... we anal nerdy types aren't that easily confused. [p]oy!
-
drbbq,[p]Funny, I see Bob as more of a Primo kinda guy.
-
WooDoggies,[p]Yeah, you got me on that one!!! I forgot... ;-) [p]Heeeeee! (I borrowed that...)
-
-
Scottie:[p]Yes, you are very fickle about making the plunge into ceramic cooking. I believe I have correspondence with you regarding ceramic cookers dating three years back![p]You know, to keep threads like this from reoccurring I might just have to purchase your ceramic cooker for you!
-
djm5x9,[p]Yeah, maybe 3 years back... I've been lost for about that amount of time... Keep hearing my wife saying, you got ANOTHER smoker???!!! Makes my feet kinda cold... ;-)
