New Party Q Looks Neat

Received my new FireCraft magazine yesterday and noticed the Party Q was re-designed. This maybe old news already, however I didn't find anyone else that brings this up. I was looking at getting one of the IQ110 or IQ120 (the ones that freaking rocks). However, I saw the PartyQ and thought it looked very promising.
Anyone have the new design?

Really surprised they redesigned this and didn't include AC adapter in addition to batteries. To me that is one turn off for this. It's great that it is portable, but if you have a plug near your cooker I would rather not deal with batteries. Even if they made the AC adapter optional, they could at least add the input jack.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
-
@johnkitchens they sure do! Well it's a catalog, not a magazine. Sorry for the wrong term.------------------------------

@SmokeyPitt, you make a great point. I didn't know the previous version had a wall adapter as well. That would be a great benefit to have the option for both though.

One thing that rasies my brow is why does Fire Craft show this and BBQ Guru does not?

@SmokeyPitt I agree, that would be a great improvement for sure. It would be nice to have that versatility.
The IQ series have the adaptor but I have read about some rigs for batteries too. That is what interests me so I do not have to find an outlet and a drop cord to run the Egg.
How long does a PartyQ last on a fresh set of batteries (I know this can be different due to the cooks, etc, but a rough estimate)?

I have the older version. Works great. Batteries aren't a problem. I bought a 4 pack with charger for 15$. They are dedicated to the party q. No cords to wrap up. When not in use it goes in a drawer.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

@grege345, for me, I run through batteries left in right for flash photography. I buy them by the loads. I do have Enelope rechargeable batteries too, that do a great job.
I already have a ET-733 Maverick for the pit and meat thermometer, this appears to be a great option.

I also use in conjunction with maverick 732. To me its a perfect match for overnights.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos -

I have a partyQ for sale, modified to run off of batteries or AC adaptor. I just don't find myself using it much - maybe a handful of cooks in about 2 years. PM me if anyone is interested in buying it.@tarheelmatt - I bought 16 rechargeable batteries for my flash from Amazon for pretty cheap. Charger stays plugged in, and I swap out batteries between flash and charger as needed@johnkitchens - do not, DO NOT, sign up for the FireCraft catalog! Its dangerous to be reminded regularly of all the bbq accessories that can be had. Your credit cards bills start rising rapidly!#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

@caliking I have Enelopes but in most cases I just go back to Duracells. Mostly because I like knowing it charge and don't have to tend the batteries before a shoot or test to see which ones are charged.

The short version is a fresh set of alkalines should last around 45-50 hours. For me, the battery power is the main attraction. I'm no expert, but I think you may need some circuitry in addition to the .13 plug. And of course, the marketing cynic in me tells me that a PartyQ with adapter might eat into sales of other models. Who knows.....

@johnkitchens, you're welcome. For letting you in on my secret I will take a new PartyQ gifted from you... lol...

Thanks, @The Naked Whiz! That is a many cooks there!
Wonder if @stlcharcoal has the DL (down low) on these new PartyQ's?
I like the battery portion too, but the other poster had a great point about the AC adapter. I enjoy not finding outlets for items. Like lighting, I like the weed torch w/ propane tank instead of the electronic varieties. Partially my back deck has no outlets. I have one in the back of the house but need a drop cord. So the less items to plug in and trip over sounds great to met.

Nope, not yet. I still have the current model and CyberQ Wifi new in the boxes that I will need to sell before I make another order.
Looks interesting though.

I finally got around to fabbing my PartyQ AC adapter. Found a 6v DC PS in a box in the basement. Total cost to me was $1.78 for the dowel rod and I have enough left for a few more battery replacers if I need them. Used it last weekend and it worked great. You can see the notch I clipped into the battery door for the wires. I can go battery or AC easily, and its universal for any 4 cell device.
The wires are stripped and attached to the dowels via screws from my junk box. Just be sure to use a meter and check polarity.They/Them

Gave mine to Travis. Just not a fan after starting to Turbo (no need for it).Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

@Mickey, you bring up a point. I turbo the majority of my cooks (butts and ribs) too. Would be nice to have something for occasional larger butt or brisket. In the future I may be like you and not use it.

@tarheelmatt this is the very reason I bought the cheapest controller I can find. If I didn't do the occasional overnight I'd probably sell it. For instance. If we are having company over on Sunday ill overnight a butt and hope to have it off by 11am so I can cook other things while the butt is FTC.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

I just bought the PartyQ and now it changes design. The new one looks more water resistant. I've used mine twice in a month and it works great on a large egg. I love the fact that I don't have to plug the darn thin in. What's up with the trendy "fire hose" look? LOLDave - Austin, TX

Not sure if they noticed the IQ series or not, but it does not bother me.
