soaking almonds ?

can someone please explain the benefit and procedure to soaking almonds before smoking them ? ?

I have had great succsess smoking almonds without soaking them , but i am always up to try new things .

    I used to soak for 10 minutes before roasting on the grill.  The almonds were great, but not much of a crunch.  Now, I cold smoke for 3 hours and then roast, no soaking... Awesome!

    If you soak, you can rub off the skins. They absorb smoke better without the skins.
