I assume those things must be an acquired taste.. I followed a supposed time honored recipe to a T a few years ago and our high anticipation was only overcome by our intense hatred of those friggen things! BTW all 2 pounds went in the trash! You can have all of those tree turds!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I never bought food based on a song. I dated a girl who liked Prince so I almost made "Raspberry Puree", but I think we broke up so I never made that dish.

Very cool, Doc. I've never had chestnuts, let alone seen them around these parts. Way to get in the holiday spirit.

if you dont make the cut what ends up happening is your egg turns into a gatling chestnut gun i heard a pop, opened the egg, and covered the side of the house with mashed chestnuts ) my first and only experience with roasting chestnuts, glad i didnt do it in the fireplace indoors )fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I made a soup with them last year. After roasting them (pain in the azz to peal - I'll do 'em like the chef above this time) put them in a pot with onions or leeks, fresh thyme, cook till the onions are soft but not browning, add veggie stock and bring to a boil then simmer for 30 minutes or so. When they're tender let cool and add a splash of heavy cream and whizz in the blender. It's really silky if you pass it through a sieve. Serve it with some crumble bacon bits and a swirl of chestnut liqueur. (Trader Vics carries it). It's really good.

HDumpty - I am going to try that. They are not really snack material, but have a nice, sweet flavor.

Chestnut and bacon soup. Pretty good, but peeling the nuts is a pain.

Oh man, now I want chestnuts. Love them. Used to hang out in the neighbours shop drinking beer and roasting those things on the wood stove. Now I'm the neighbour that everyone hangs out at. Gotta see if there is a Boxing Day sale on chestnuts.Mt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

Nicely played Fred. Never seen raspberry purée in a second-hand store, but I've worn earner every food known to man... -
I like em raw. We had a chestnut tree when I was a kid and I used to eat those things until I was almost sick. Haven't had any in years.
