Just wondering if anybody could give me any tips on lining up the top and bottom lips. For some reason over time they have become uneven and is allowing much smoke to come out the sides. Is there anything I could do to the hinge to help this problem? Thanks.

I know all the rules, but the rules do not know me.

I had the same problem after replacing my gasket. I think I must have pushed on the lid too much, and misaligned things. To fix it I closed the lid and slightly loosened the bold that holds the band on the lid--the bent bolt. With the bolt a little looser I was able to align the parts and re-tighten the bolt. It turned out to be very easy and I didn't have to mess with the hinges. Good luck.

I just cannot get my lid perfectly aligned and although it isn't impacting cooking, it just bothers me. I have tried everything but when I go to tighten the top band, it just pulls that lid back about 1/4". I'm thinking about purchasing a new hinge and bands assembly. Anyone think that would work?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

You may want to see an orthodontist about that

Pretty sure that is a band adjustment issue. When working with the bands, be very wary and careful with the springs in the back, they can snap at you if the bands are loosed.Cookin in Texas

I had a similar issue when I put my Egg together...had an underbite of about 1/2 an inch. I had to adjust the band on the lid...moved the band down a bit on the dome until it was aligned

I have just finished alligning mine. When I looked at the original instructions they say tourqe band to about 125 inch pounds. Also make sure the hinge is not tight on one side thus forcing the dome on out of sq. Good luck

I have been removing the springs and loosening both bands. Then, get lid in place, tighten lower band and then it's as I tighten the top band it pulls the lid back 1/4". I just gave up. Anyone know if you can just replace the bands and not the hinge?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html
