Mission was to develop an affordable method to send a boneless Costco pulled pork shoulder from south Flarida to Meeshegun. Decided to start with a few smoked pork shoulders.

Went to Home Depot looking for a cheapo scheme to test out and came home with box, insulation, and shipping tape.
-
Lined the box with insulation.

Closed the box up and monitored pork temperature through the box with our friend pinky.

Looks great. Do you ship to Georgia?

Good luck - I tried those Costco Shoulders and I was happy with them. I know they are boneless but they still were excellent.

But the home depot box was was going to cost too much to ship. So decided to try the USPS Large Flat Rate Box, which would cost an affordable fifteen bucks.

Had to make some more pork but this time freeze it in a large baggie instead of the pan. Froze it and packed it into the Flat Rate box with 5 lb dry ice and dropped it off at USPS at 6 pm Monday. It arrived at 2 pm Wed thawed but still super cold. So it cost about 37 bucks total, including the pork. And its winter, probably would not try it in summer.

Big green egg delivery! I love it. =D>Large & Small BGE, CGW Two-Tier Swing Rack for BOTH EGGS, Spider for the Wok, eggCARTen & and Cedar Pergola my Eggs call home in Edmond, OK.

Awesome! I'm not gonna show this to my relatives, or else I would hafta ship food to all of them.
-
You are the best. I would point them to the BGE store and show them how to get on this forum. Then again it's really not like real work.

Now that I've successfully demo'ed sending a Flat Rate Box of pulled pork from So. Fla. to MI I'm going to go long and send one to S.F.

I once had a contract with UPS to ship stone crab claws ANYWHERE in the U.S.A. within a 24 hour period, and they guarenteed the product. We shipped $80,000. in the first year, and never had a complaint. We packaged them in styrofoam boxes NOT FROZEN with two frozen cooler packs. Seaed the styrofoam box and the outside box and out the door!!

Companies in Alaska do that, using Fed Ex overnight, but like you they may have a contract and that contract may soften the premium shipping fees. I was looking for the next level of service, cost-wise. UPS, Fed Ex, and USPS would all LIKE to ship overnight and get the premium fee, all of which I think are about double or so (and based on weight) vs. the 15 bucks for the Large Flat Rate Box and two day method. Though I might want to rethink that a little because dry ice is not cheap and is about 10 bucks of the total cost.

I had a flat rate -- anywhere in the U.S.A. . They actually set up a computer, linking me into their system. It would print out the postage and address labels for each box. The orders i recieved came thru the Nieman Marcus catalog. Thats a lot of stone crab claws without ever messing one up !
