Glove Recommendations Please

I have some heavy duty BBQ gloves (supposedly I am able to pick up flaming loge) but still managed to burn my fingers today when pulling Tom's R & B set up Adjustable Rig from the Egg to put more charcoal in.

It was pretty heavy because I had the oval stone in there which didn't help but I was surprised

I really want some gloves where you don't fell a thing at extreme temperature.

Any suggestions guys?

    Premium welding gloves. You still need to work quickly to avoid getting burned. I have heard of Kevlar gloves, but don't know where you would buy them or the cost. I am sure they are pricey. Good luck.

    bought some welding gloves that go halfway up the forearms (good to prevent singeing of arm hair when lifting dome).  Got them on Amazon for about $15.  Work well for picking up hot plate setter.

    I use these and really like them:

    I also bought a pair from Lowes that were like $10 and they work well too.  Both can hold a hot platesetter for a minute or so before you feel the heat.

    If you have time, visit your local fire house (fire brigade if you are in the land of OZ) and see what gloves they use.  Spent many years as a volunteer FF and the expired (from the FF cert view) gloves that I use can handle anything for a reasonable period of time-platesetter, grid etc...FWIW-
    Louisville;  L & S BGEs, PBC, Lang 36; Burnin' wood in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer.

    I use firefighting gloves. Figure if the protect me at work then they will work for the egg. There are plenty of options on eBay. Some are listed right now in the 10 to 20 dollar range. There are some listed that no longer have a serviceable life (older than ten years per NFPA guidelines) that are new and will do everything you will need. Hope this helps.

    I had an older pair of those gloves that fit me great and worked very well.  They started to get warn, so I ordered the pair you show from Amazon. I have large hands and the new version of these gloves are extremely tight.  I have very little dexterity when I wear them. I'm hoping they will loosen up over time but it hasn't happened yet.  I spoke with the company and they sent me a new pair but it fit the same. They couldn't say why they shrank the size.

    My Dad was a firefighter and when he passed I got a pair of his firefighter gloves. Best you can do. Great dexterity and no heat transfer. I have been looking on firefighters supply places to try and get a new pair

    I've always used Welder's Gloves with the long gauntlets. As has been noted, you're ot going to be chatting up the new neighbor lady next door, but for swapping things out, they are quite good and very cost effective! You can get them anywhere for $15-$25.

    Those fire gloves seem to me to be priced too high. Like I posted before go to ebay as there are many well priced gloves on there. Oziegg where do you live? If you were close to me I'm sure I could hook you up with and old pair.

    I have those and use them to pick up HOT platesetters on the drop ring when my thermometer is reading in the 700 range.  I have no idea how how the platesetter is down there right over the flames.  If you hold on for a while, I can smell an odor from the gloves heating up/burning, but they've never gotten more than warm on my hands.  I doubt I could hold it for 15 minutes, but I don't have to hurry anymore, no matter how hot it is.

    I have a set of 480° Orka silicone mitts and they work well for me. Even with good gloves, have a plan, of where your going and a clear path to get there. I have seen people at several Eggfests pickup hot platesetters with gloves and then start looking for where they are going to put it down, and then start to trip over something, and that look in their eyes of DANG THIS IS HOT!!!

    worth every penny! nice and long, no singed arm hair. But as others have said. If you've got a 700 degree egg, you better have a short walk and a clear plan. I burnt thru a pair of cheaper welding gloves pulling my plate setter out of a 350 degree egg. Promptly bought these and have been happy ever since.

    hey man,

    fwiw -- I don't wanna be a momo, but I got mechanic's work gloves, with a shop towel, from HD for $7...  They get hot if you have a conversation, but you throw them in the wash after each cook, and they are great for moving stuff around - PS, grid, food, etc...  When they get too beat up, I'll buy another set..

    I'd NEVER spend $150 on gloves...

    here's a pic of what I use - Grease Monkey gloves...  They come with a towel and a carabiner I use when grilling all the time..
