Sort of off topic - Looking for BBQ Restaurant recommendations in New O'rleans

I will ne traveling to the big easy in March and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for BBQ joints where I can get some good southern BBQ while I am there.

Living in NS Canada I want to experience some of the famous southern BBQ I keep hearing about.

Not a ton of BBQ resturants in town. Make you a list of good creole/Cajun & that'll know our socks off. I'm sure you're aware Cajuns come from Nova Scotia.

Yes I am but it seems the Cajun food culture has left us here.

Down here on the Bayou Louisiana BBQ means cochon de lait, pronounced cu shawn de lay, which is pit-roasted young suckling pig. A couple of the best places to have this dish here in New Orleans are:

+1 on Cochon. I was in town for a conference and got the "louisiana cochon with turnips, cabbage, pickled peaches & cracklins" for lunch. I had to take the food out of my mouth after the first bite just so I could look at what magical substance was enchanting my mouth.

While not a BBQ place, Muthers is an excellent restaurant. Great fried food, po boys, etc... Not a fancy place at all but the locals love it. It is near the casino.

If you're looking for REAL southern BBQ make a side trip to Memphis Tennessee for awesome porksicle or head West to Houston TX and get some Beef BBQ. Either city is only a bit over 6 hours by car and so worth it that before I became an egghead I made the trip once or twice a year to Memphis just to eat BBQ. Of course Kansas City BBQ is good as well... but that's too damned far to drive... LOL.

Thanks, Skiddy - not a lot of BBQ joints here, Parallel listed some of the best. But life doesn't end with BBQ - some of the best food in North America can be found here. Go look at nomenu.com and try being adventurous. You can't go wrong with going to any of the 4-5 star rated places, and listen to the recommendations of the serving staff - as in Rome.....

I have never been in New Orleans before and I didn't even consider creole or Cajun, I was just thinking south = southern bbq.

Now I am excited to try some Gumbo and craw fish.

I have to agree. Make sure to try the ferdi with debris. (At least that's what I think it is called).

Fliehigh.......forget the BBQ and immerse yourself in New Orleans Cuisine. There are some great places to eat. It is always good to get recommendations. There are a lot of old established N.O. eateries as well as a huge crop of new chefs trying to make a name for themselves. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get good food either. Some eateries may be difficult to find, but you can always take a cab.
