Some of you may have seen my post last week about my DigiQ pit thermometer not working while I had 6 butts on.  If this has happened to anyone else, did a new wire solve the problem?  Did it cost you anything or was it replaced free of charge?  I have only had the unit for about 3-4 months & used it maybe a dozen times or so.  Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?  TIA

Yes, this happened to me.  You can plug the food thermometer into the grate jack and use it until you get a replacement.

I didn't try to get a warranty replacement, I just bought another.

Try keeping the probes dry all the time.  Thermistors are cheap, but they're very susceptible to steam.  So if you get water in the wires/probes and it heats up, it can trash the thermistor.    Try drying the whole probe and wire in a 150 F oven - sometimes that fixes them if they're working, but reading low.
