Turbo Butt Success! (and pic)

I took Mickey's advice and tried a turbo butt cook yesterday. 8 pound butt. Cooked at 350 dome to 160 internal, wrapped in HDAF, cooked to 200 internal. 6 hour cook. Very short stall.
I have to call this cook a success. It was very easy, much quicker than past butt cooks, and probably 90% as good. Flavor was excellent, bark tasted great but had slightly less "crunch." I would definitely recommend and will do it again.
This is my first attempt at posting a pic so I hope I do it right. I had an iphone and bad lighting but the Q looked great in person.
Thanks Mickey!

Nice cook. The only thing off from the LONG cook is thickness of bark and I was happy with mine. I cooked half the size and took half the time. Would not have a problem with two 8 pounders cooking a total of 6 hours. Just like you, no problem without the overnight cooks. Pork was/is outstanding. My way to cook from this point on.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

To anyone that has done turbo butts, does the ability to do turbo briskets work as well?Felton, Ca. 2-LBGE, 1-Small, PBC, PK360, Genesis Summit, Camp Chef Flattop, Smokefire 24, Traeger Pro Series 22 Pellet with a Smoke Daddy insert, Gateway 55 Gal. drum, SNS Kettle w/acc.

I haven't heard of that but would be willing to give it a try. Someone just posted that they cooked one in 4 hours.XL,L,SWinston-Salem, NC

I am going to try this today, did not get the butt on last night....so here goes today. Think it will be done by 4pm??I have to call this cook a success. My next try is going to be without the foil at 160. This may pick up the bark a little. Thoughts?Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

I will let ya know later in the day, I just put a 8lb butt on @ 350 (maverick temp)
-
I do mine at 300 grid temp, and no foil during the cook. On around 9am, off around 4pm, rest for 2 hours in foil, and eat at 6pm.
-
Looks like I will be turboi'n at speed o' light, supposed to eat around 5, put it on at 0800 @ 350...will see. I have a keg of beer, that'll keep em busy while it finishes
-
But if your reduce the cook time that means less time to drink beer. I keep telling the wife, gotta drink beer and keep an eye on the Egg.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html
What am I drinking now? Woodford....neat -
That is a fact 4 Run!

My 8 pounder cooked in 4 hours. This was unintentional. It was tasty, but have no idea why it cooked so fast or how I did it without ruining the brisket. I had a bad gasket that caused my temp to creep up over night.Mark Annville, PA

Will be doing a modified ( no foil, just lower egg temp) turbo butt this weekend. Will post pictures when done. Yours look really good. Thanks for the postLarge, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

I would have liked to go it slow, but I didn't make it to the barby last night. I have been informed now we will not eat tonight till around 7, so I am sure it will be ok. I will post later w/ pics and a success story or disaster story, either way the beer is COLD! ( did make the slaw though)

I did a 9 lb. picnic a few weeks ago with the dome around 310. Took it back down to 250 when the average temperature was just under 180. No foil. Finished a little over 6 hours. Good, but bark not quite as good. It may be that there really is no substitute for 18 or so hours of smoke.

I'm still cracking up at the phrase "Turbo Butt Success". I guess I'm still a 13 year old a heart but that's funny right there. Sounds like a title for Asian Porn )Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Already 156 in under 3 hrs, going to go to slow, I think it will hold at that temp for awhile, seems to go to that on the low and slow for a long time anyway. Looking fwd to the eats.:)

Almost beer thirty too!!
-
In my experience, the stall should be pretty short cooking at 350.XL,L,SWinston-Salem, NC
