I am looking for a new thermometer for low and slows. I was on Amazon earlier and saw they were only going for $32 new. Is this model worth that, or should I get the newer model?

I considered the ET 73 but read some reviews about the range not being up to snuff. I've always felt that when a company comes out with a new model of an existing one-there's a reason for it. Bottom line-I bought the ET732 and it worked like a champ this weekend.

Only 30 bucks more for the newer one, might as well get it. I just got one, and it works great.George

Thats what I thought. I'll just climb a few branches higher on the money tree in my yard and grab some extra cash!Columbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Woo hoo!! Got a Maverick ET732 and Woo2 for my bday..Will let you know how the thermo works..

The ET-732 will beep when you get out of range of the transmitter. The ET-73 doesn't tell you when out of range. I have both and prefer the 732.

I bought mine 4 weeks ago from amazon.com for $59. Got a $30 instant credit for signing up for one of their credit cards...no strings attached.

My 732 has been flawless. Get the good one and you'll only spend money once.My actuary says I'm dead.

I've had the et-73 for a year or so. I've had the same problems with range etc as the reviewers. My chief complaint is that to turn on the unit attached to the probes you have to open the battery compartment
.
Honestly, I just use the probe unit and hang it on my handle nowadays and forego the remote altogether. If you are wanting a good remote thermometer, I'd say spring for the 732. If you don't mind walking to the cooker, save the dough and get the 73. I personally like checking up on my egg every so often. It makes my wife think I'm putting forth effort to turn out good BBQ.
Just my $.02Adam -
I've got the et-732 and its worked great. I'd also recommend it over the 73 (like the other posters).
losttree - there's a mod to the 73 to allow you to access the switches:

Thanks for this tip! I just ordered mine! I usually am a big fan of supporting local business, but when I got it shipped and still paid $30 less, it was a no brainer. (And the Amazon card will be cancelled as fast as I can open the envelope to get the cusotmer service number.)

Thanks smoke_monster for the link. I'll have to modify mine. I'm pretty embarassed to say that it never occurred to me to fix the problem. I just tried to be extra careful not to lose that retainer after dropping it the first few times.

Thanks for the video! Will try it.
