Lower the Egg?

Currently in the "design pahse" of a double table (just have a large now - but one can dream - actually wife and I have decided to buy an XL this summer).  I prefer to lower the egg a bit (top of lower egg is about an inch above table) from than the standard plans.  If one leaves a rectangular cut out for the spring mech (4"x8" for the large) it should allow the top to rise?  Thoughts?

Will be looking for stainless drawer guides, some high intensity lights and a wire rack for below the eggs (to put plate setters, tops and extra grates - that is one of the great ideas culled from this forum).

Just be sure you can still open the top.
