Decided to try a recipe I had once in a dive in NC. It may sound a little off, but they are extremely tasty! Basically, you replace the bun with a fresh KK donut sliced in half.
Here's a pic of the meat going on the BGE & half way through:
Here's the finished product with grilled asparagus and homemade sweet potato fries

You Just made my day. I will have to try.
-
Thanks Bakeman! They really are good. The sweet and savory really do well together. My wife was really surprised. She expected the donut flavor to really stand out, but it doesn't.
-
Sinful. I love it!I'm Kristi ~ Live in FL ~ BGE since 2003.

Did you grill the donut?
-
WOW, I will live vicariously through you. LOL \:D/I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike Bar.
-
Bakeman - yes you grill the donut but only on the cut side. My picture shows the top bun grilled. You place the burger between the two glazed parts of the sliced donut. With the cut/grilled sides you have a nice clean grip on the burger! It only takes 15 seconds or so of 450-500 direct searing to toast the donut perfectly.
-
One more thing....A KK donut has 210 calories. A nice bakery bun from our local supermarket has 180. So, only a 30 calorie difference!
-
I get it. The grilled asparagus makes it healthly. Tammy from the Dallas area did that at a fest and WOW....Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

It will be tried on Sunday, cooking a bunch of food for the Great American Race.

I am about ready to go to work, I am debating weather to call of or go get burger and donuts.

isn't that paula deen's signature burger? i think she developed it. along with type2 diabetes.
zing!
looks intriguing. but man, how rich is it?
when we got a krispy kreme near us and it first opened, i would buy two boxes of six. i would eat six on the ride home and walk in with the others "who wants donuts!?!"
when i didn't have one someone would ask and i'd reply "oh no, none for me, i'm fine. trying to watch my weight"
here's her recipe

I had this burger on a college road trip to NC (home of Krispy Kreme) in the mid 80's. Don't know how long Paula has been making it. A buddy of mine told me he thought he saw it on the menu at the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas too.Again, the thing to keep in mind is that there is only 30 calorie difference between a KK donut and a deli burger bun. The pile of french fries that most people eat are far more detrimental to your health and waistline than a single 200 calorie donut.Everything in moderation...
-
tmackie yep, but you can just eat just one deli burger bun..............................................Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

NecessaryIndulg - feel free to share - no worriesAustin Egghead - I use the Dizzy Pig - Cow Lick Steak Rub these days on my burgers

Umm, it depends on the hamburger bun. Most hamburger buns I found on a quick search contain around 100 +/- 20 calories. And then there's that little fat thingy. A KK 200 calorie donut has 110 calories from fat. Hamburger buns have around 15 or so.
That said, if you are eating a nice big juicy burger, you are right, you might as well enjoy it, lol!

Nightwing, maybe you could come down for the annual 5 mile krispy kreme run in Raleigh. They run 2.5 miles from the starting line to the KK store. They are given a dozen KK's to eat, and they they run 2.5 back. There are usually a few good photos of suffering faces in the paper the next day. I'd try it, but this old knee of mine won't let me run, lol. Maybe I could just hang out at the KK store as a volunteer and hand out the boxes to the runners.
