So...... I was starting the coals on my XL getting ready to do a tri tip and some flank steak for fajitas. I lit the lump and turned around to go back inside and stabbed my eye with my broken EZ-UP canopy. (the storm a few days ago broke half of it and I have been too lazy to throw it away) After a few hours at the ER, I have a contact, an eye patch and an appointment for 8am tomorrow.
I have a huge tear on my cornea but I think it will be ok. More importantly, The meat was put back in fridge and will be cooked as soon as I am able. It will be my first tri tip and I am excited. It is coated with EVOO and Dizzy Pig Red Eye, do you guys think it will mess it up leaving the rub on for a day or two?
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

Take care of that eye. You only get 2 of them. Hope it turns out ok.

You can replace the tri-tip and anything else that would have gone on the egg. Can't replace your eye. Take care and heal up. Hope there isn't any damage to our eye.Large, small, and a mini

You. Have. A. Patch. That is awesome!!!! Hope you get better.
Leaving the rub on won't hurt anything. Make it better!

But when you actually are tough, those who just think they are tough, get in the ditch.

Any connection between your mishap and the Dizzy Pig Red Eye ???

Feel better man, cook the meat and if it's good, chalk it up as the new "Pirate" recipe, if it's not, tell everyone about the time you were so devoted to cooking you almost lost an eye.In all seriousness, get well soon. In the end, it's just food, sight, sound, taste, touch are all senses you don't want to forfeit.

good luck with the cornea travis. i scratched mine slightly, outside the field of vision, and it hurt like hell for a long time. make sure you have pain meds.
for a long while, the cells which fill in th scratch aren't 'set' in place, and merely blinking can move them around.
and bright light can hurt to. strangest damn thing.
i hope you don't have any of that pain. like a stab in the eye even six months later if, for example, you wake at night and the tv is on and you look at it. photophobic is what the doc said.
did the doc say whether you'd avoid any vision loss?
i feel for you, man. frikkin painful. hopefully yours is different.
fwiw, mine happened when someone said "hey" and i looked up at him, he was up on a balcony. the second i saw him, a paper clip he'd thrown at me went in my eye. he'd bent it so the pointed ends were sticking at 90 degrees. thanks alot, a*-h*le

Good luck Travis I hope you get good reports from Dr.Lenoir, N.C.

If you need second opinion, let me know, Im an eye doctor down here in Monterrey, Mexico! If you have photophobia, tell the doctor to dilate the pupil and will make it feel better. You will definitely need an eye patch for a day or two depending on the severity. Make sure you don't drive with one eye, down here my patients are crazy and want to continue driving!FelipeMen, easier fed than understood!!

I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike Bar.

UPDATE: I saw the specialist this morning. I have a 1cm gash on my cornea. The good news is that it is not very deep which is apparently is the critical dimension when dealing with eye injuries. I had PRK surgery in 07 which makes me both high risk and familiar with the pain of eye trauma. I cant see clearly out of the injured eye but, I think that will fix its self. The Doc had to trim the torn edge to facilitate even healing with less scaring. It doesn't hurt too much right now as I have taken a small handful of Vicoden. Thanks everyone for the kind words. This forum defiantly has a good group of folks.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

OOOOOh. Sorry to hear Travis. Take care and hope you heal up well and soon!
Only 3 things in life matter. Family, Steelers and my BGE!! -

Hope you heal really fast. I had an eye taped shut for a week, and was thrilled when the patch came off. Made me very clumsy. Best wishes for your recovery.
-
Fingers crossed the eye heals. Had some laser surgery as a small section of my retina was seperating, that 15 minutes was far more uncomfortable than 9 hours at a tattoo parlor. I feel for you Travis.Nerk Ahia LBGE
