Also, have a fridge in their garage for 30 years, not a chance nowadays.

See auto industry (around 2008-2009). Specifically GM, Chrysler some auto parts suppliers - a lot of good it did them.

Irishdevil, Three 22lbs bags delivered to your door for around $25 a piece. Wickedgoodcharcoal.com.

IrishDevl-, I'm also a big fan of WG. You can order 3 bags shipped to you for about $75 total. The stuff burns forever and is great on long cooks. Highly recommend if you are cooking for any length of time.

Gosh, I am new the the big green egg, but I do hope that it isn't another place for political debate, I want to talk about good food, not politics!
-
Chris, welcome and good luck. Not much in politics in this thread. Perhaps two comments, economics and food, yes, politics no. Don't be scared.

$25 for a 22 is a big hit in the wallet. So, I ask, is a 18lb bag for $13 (RO) better than a $25 for 22?
-
Not if the Royal Oak only lasts half as long.
Did a 6 hour rib cook today using Wicked Good and the majority of the charcoal is still in the egg in big pieces. Looks like I didn't even use it.
I like RO too and use it for all my short cooks.XL,L,SWinston-Salem, NC -
For the Louisville guy -- the lump at Value Market is Royal Oak rebranded. Its about $7.50 for a 10 lb. bag. Sometimes on sale. Picked up a pork butt for $.99/lb. there last week.

Hog and irish: they've been doing it for years, and since well before obama/bush/clinton et al

I've been buying RO at Restaurant Depo for years...17.5 lb bag for $7.99...$0.46 p/lb

Who the Hell comes up with 8.8lbs. instead of a normal 10,20,50Lb. bag ?
It's the great metric conspiracy. 8.8 lbs = 4 kg, 17.5 lbs = 8kg. If the manufacturer is exporting it is easier to print different weights on the bags than to use another size bag and calibrate the production equipment for another fill weight.

Seems like most places here other than WalMart charge $20.00 plus for lump. I think Natures Own green and white bag 17lb or so is available for 12 something unless it has gone up and Natures Own Chunk Charwood Orange and brown bag is around there too but my current bag of that is mostly small pieces as was the last several bags of RO I had.

Never thought about that . It makes perfect sense. Everything we deal with now is in a world market.
That being said the packaging games are getting out of hand on everything especially when the packaging and the shipping cost more than the product.

Organize a local pallet order of WG. You will be glad you did

Check out your local food distributor that let's you do a customer pickup. My brother works for Sysco, with his employee discount, I get a 40# bag of very good Lazzari mesquite lump coal for less than $20. It's excellent as well.

I picked up four true 10# bags of RO at Walmart for $6.87. I stocked up after all the talk of downsizing bags.
