Demo Egg

I am buying a demo egg from one of the local egg fests. They are probably not going to season it before its first use. Is it too late to season it after the first use? Do I even need to concern myself with seasoning it?

The Egg is ceramic...Not Cast Iron. No seasoning needed AT all.

Tweev is correct, no reason or need to season an egg. If you want some grease on the inside you have to earn it!

Nope doesn't need S&P.. Egg is tough to chew anyway! -
Pork and mequite will make it as black as can be very soon.I grill therefore I am.....not hungy.

The first few times it is true- you are supposed to keep the EGG under 450 degrees or so.
Just keep an eye on 'er and you should be fine!

I seasoned mine with a Brisket. Just fire it up and cook something. That is all that is required.

Depends somewhat on what you have for transport. Assuming it is all assembled, I would break it down into parts if you have a small vehicle. We all have friends with pick-up trucks, offer him some BBQ if he will bring it home for you ...Never eat anything passed through a window unless you're a seagull ... BGE Lg.

I was able to transport my Egg in a GMC Jimmy fully assembled, it rode well and wasn't very tippy. Bring a good helper to load or pop it apart....they are heavy and awkward to pickup due to shape. Make sure you pick it up by grabbing underneath, don't lift it by the handles or lid.
If the weight is an issue you can just loosen the bands and pop the lid, remove the grate, fire ring and firebox....the individual pieces aren't too heavy. When you get home you'll need to adjust the lid if you disassemble. Even if you transport it together you'll want to make sure the lid is adjusted properly anyway. Fred's Music and BBQ has a good video on gasket replacement that goes over adjustment and the dollar bill method....his videos are great...I wish he had been a bit closer I would have bought my Egg from him just as a thanks for all the info he's passing along.

thanks guys. I didnt know if i needed to disassemble any of it for safe transport. I am going to use lots of padding and haul it in the trailer, and then firing it up for the razorback game tonight!Large BGE Dallas, TX

If hauling it in an open trailer I would use some ZIP ties to keep the spring loaded hinge from popping the lid up if you hit a bump....it will also stop a partial open and slam shut.
