Does anyone have any good locations in the Ventura / Los Angeles County area for buying decent lump?
I'm up in Thousand Oaks and the only thing we have is BBQ's Galor selling BGE Lump - which is basically Royal Oak, priced up 10$.
Still trying to convince my Canadian friends to send me down a few bags of Maple Leaf.

They also sell mesquite and orange lump, at least they did when I was there.

I still have a couple bags of Maple Leaf left from a pallet I bought years ago. I seem to remember that although it smelled heavenly, it burned awfully fast!Judy in San Diego

At times I've seen several Bevmo stores selling the Lazzari Mesquite lump. Haven't been to one in a while, but you might try. I usually just buy the BGE lump when I stop by the BBQ Galores.

have you checked at walmart for royal oak?
do you have any food wholesalers that have retail or outlet stores? if so, they most may stock "restaurant grade" royal oak, in green bags.
ace hardware's web site lists "grillmark" all natural charcoal--never heard of it, but with free ship-to-store it might be worth taking a chance on one bag

finally, check at your local whole foods or fresh market store--they both usually have a house brand that is probably Cowboy brand lump--burns fast, not much smoke flavor, but i would take that over the overpriced BGE lump

I buy Royal Oak at Walmart, about $6.50 a bag. Also, Ralphs sells Kroger lump which works decently. And Lowe's carries Frontier, which I really liked. Nice large pieces.

I think there should be a restaurant depot down your way. Large bags of Royal oak for $12. Tell them you a member of the Kansas City BBQ society or just want to look around. I bought 4 large bags just on my free trip. Wal Mart should have the small bags but a little smaller pieces..

I also got this at my local Raleys store which is in Northern California but they have a similar chain down south and this was real good and great price.

I get Royal Oak at Walmart in Oxnard
