Former neighbor asked me if I wanted some Applewood.
Duh!
I same day, I received some "pre-paid" :silly:
Pecan wood from a fellow worker that I "bribed" with some ribs. :woohoo:
I used a 14" cut-off saw for the smaller Pecan and even then, it was not pretty!
I do own a chain saw for the bigger pieces, but was curious what the self "chunkers" :ermm: use and would recommend.
Thanks!

sawzall works good to shorten them up first and easier than a chain saw
-
Dan,
Steve's right. Split them into something skinny and long and then chunk them up into 2"+/- pieces and then you can split them again if they seem too big. -
Thanks Pat! Was curious about that approach.

electric has more power but I'll use my cheap battery one if I'm too lazy to drive to the shop.

Adam:
In all reality :ermm: I can not see me trying to split
3 ft. pieces. I do have some wedges for splitting that I think would great for the larger pieces, but for the smaller diameter ones, I think I'd hurt myself!

A chop saw will work, but as a wood butcher who still has 10 digits I hope that someone with a radial arm saw doesn't think that they might just use that since it "seems to work" on the same principle! A radial arm saw CAN be dangerous due to aggression on round wood like logs. A couple years ago even knowing this I used mine to size up some round hickory pieces and still got spooked a couple times! -
C'mon, you have pooched a lot of stuff. You may be alright with an angle grinder but you should step back from everything else

Your right. :pinch: that's why I take mine TO a splitter. A biggass powered one.
-
I'm not half bad with a chain saw either

I would love to see the pic with you falling down.

Pat, up here we call one of those leaners a "widow maker"
Guess that's why I lead all us married guys out of harms way!

  My wife took that picture for "insurance" reasons

If you had a wedge or two you could leave the block of wood laying flat and sledge the wedge in it and up the line like a split rail fence. Have someone you don't like very well hold the wedge while you smack it with the sledge. :woohoo:
