XL BGE Plate Setter Question

Evening folks,

I inherited an XL from a friend of mine that recently passed away (thank you Rick). It is the original XL with the flat top. He didn't have a plate setter so I bought one from the store. Installed with the legs up and grate on top. Strang thing is the grate sits about 1/4 inch above the base. I was wondering if that is normal for the XL (I've had a large for 3 years) or could it be the plate setter I got is for the new model?

Please let me know, and thank you!

The insides were redisgned about 2 years ago and the platesetter is now taller. There was a new firebox and ring that goes along with this to compensate for the different height of the PS. The grid height is from the old "guts" with the new platesetter.

As I understand it, there was a design change at some point. The old XL and the new XL have different Plate Setters.

Theres a few options. The cheapest option is to notch the fire ring so that the platesetter sits down it it. (Mine is this way, my dealer did this because of this problem.) Another option, if possible, would be to get an older platesetter. The last option is to buy a new firebox and fire ring.

I can take a picture of my notched fire ring if you want?
