I had this dish at a local Greek restaurnat. It is really just a fancy hamburger, and I thought, shoot, I can make this on my BGE!
So I did. Found a recipe on a website someplace, and made some adjustments for my version, and used ground sirloin and ground pork. I will post the recipe in the recipe section, since I did a search for this dish and didn't come up with anything. But maybe I spelled it wrong.
Here are some pictures. . . .
The ingredients, very simple:
Sorry, no pictures of hand-blending the meats and spices, too messy to grab the camera!
The glob of white stuff in the upper right is not smashed potatoes, it is a Greek condiment called Tzatziki, a cucumber-Greek yogurt-garlic spread. A good dip for chips and a spread for bread, too!

that looks really good!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Lookin Tasty Wayne, good job on the cook!

Looks great! Tzatziki is an awesome addition. How was it?
-
Sour and yet tasty. Very - um - refreshing.
For folks in Southern Orange County (Cal) - It was on the manager's special at the Pita Grill in Fountain Valley. Came with a Greek salad and rice.... -

Thanks - it wasn't exactly like what I had at the Pita Grill. The store-bought version tasted like it had some cumin in it, but none of the 4 or 5 recipies I located had cumin. I will have to do more experimenting. . . and eating. . . . -
Thanks..... easy to make, too - really just a fancy hamburger. . . .
-
Very nice, looks like something I'll have to try!!

Very nice. How long did you cook the meat? Tks, Randy

Sorry, not sure time-wise how long to cook each side, I go by - what it looks like or what the temperature is. I guess my rule/guide for you is - cook it like you would do a thick hamburger, and do it they way you like your doneness. -
Thanks for posting! That looks simple and great!
It looks as though you served it without a bun or wrap. Is that correct?
Mind posting the recipe, with the proportions of the ingredients?
Did you make your own tzatziki? -
Hi Clark -
Nope, I did not serve it with bread, trying to cut carbs over here. At the restaurant they served it with small triangles of pita bread.
Yes - the recipie was posted after I made the post over here... It is still at the top of the Latest Recipies list. The Tzaski yogurt-sour cream recipe is in there, too. (I used all sour cream in the version I ate, I am not too fond of an yogurt version.)
Make some and post pictures! -
