my wife and I will be visiting the everglades late next month and wonder if you guys have any recommendations for airboat rides in the everglades? Prefer to take an hour or so tour but not too pricey. Thanks for any advice...

Jupiter Jim has some friends and relatives near the Everglades.

It's been thirty years since we rode one out across the Everglades but I can still recall the thrill. You will love it.
We were living just a few miles from the edge of the Everglades at the time so we thought we knew a little more than the average bear. NOT! You will learn a lot about them that you would never know unless you expereinced them.
Our guy took us to an island in the Everglades where there was a Seminole village. I think it was there for tourists but it was real in every way. Be sure to take some mosquito repellent because the Everglade mosquitoes love the taste of tourists.
It's definitely a "must do" adventure when in South Florida.

I was just a kid when Mom and Dad took me on one, so I have no suggestions. It was AWESOME though!! Somewhere along the Tamiami Trail as I recall, but I was like 10 or so.

Funny, the things you remember the rest of your life, but I will never forget THAT! Had to be 50 years ago! What a BLAST!!! Hope you find a good one!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

The are several airboat companies on the Tamiami Trail and in Everglade City and in Chokoloskee. If you're down there, be sure and take a cooler or buy one and purchase some stone crab claws. The boats bring them into Chokoloshee and Everglade City. What a treat!

Airboats are popular all over the area, spent many a night in the swamps gigging frogs and you can also get into areas the bassboats can't. Nights are the best if you can find a tour in the area your visiting, you won't believe how thick the gators are.

OK, since Richard FL tossed me under the buss  I better chime in here and I'm sorry to say I have lived in Palm Beach County Florida since 1956 and have never bin into the real Everglades via Airboat. :( But about 5 years ago I went on Lake Okeechobee at night hunting for Gators and it is something that is BURNED into my memory bank forever. :)Yep had a great time.
So I would think the worst airboat ride into the Glades would be very cool. Yea the bugs can be pretty bad but mostly in the summer, if it is hot day they will be worster
and if a cold day they will be dormant. :woohoo:
It's kinda neat how there is always a breeze when your in those Airboats!!!
I think the Seminole Indians are doing most of the tours down their now and no one knows the Glades like them.
Sorry I can't help more and Please let us know how it turns out.

we had a few follow us home with the frogs
use to clean the frogs in a canal before we went in and it was like feeding the gators at gatorland  -
The Miccosuki seem to be the most publicized down here, which also leads me to think, their routes in the Glades are probably the most traveled, hence, less wild life.

You say 'visiting the everglades', but that is a pretty vast expanse of land! Where in So FL will you be staying? There are many options, but covering hundreds of miles. Can you be a bit more specific, or is the trip going to be dictated by a specific area of the Glades? -
Do a google search for "Dan the Man Everglades Airboat Charters". You might take a look at some Youtube videos of his tours, they are pretty good. If you take one of his tours, tell him Brad Moser from Anadarko sent you.
